Ways to Give

Montana State University is on the rise — in enrollment, size and prestige. Our university's continued excellence is reliant on the generosity of alumni, friends, parents, faculty and staff. Every gift makes a difference and enables Montana State to fulfill its land grant mission and provide unparalleled educational opportunities for future generations. Your gift today will drive innovation and impact at every level of the university while supporting every student's efforts in the pursuit of excellence and following their dreams.

Annual giving

Annual giving is the university’s annual fundraising effort specifically seeking recurring gifts from alumni, parents, families, friends, faculty and staff in support of the university’s colleges and units.

This category of gifts fall in a range between $1 to $25,000, so every gift, no matter the amount, makes a difference by supporting our outstanding students and faculty, groundbreaking research and exceptional programs. When you participate in our annual fundraising campaigns, you help fulfill our land-grant mission and are to ensure that a great MSU experience is available for generations to come.

Your employer may sponsor a matching gift program. This means that your company will match charitable donations that you make and possibly hours that you volunteer. Some companies also match gifts by retirees and/or spouses. To find out if your company has a matching gift program, enter your employer’s name here.

With a minimum pledge of $25,000, which may be made in annual donations over a span of up to five years, parents and family members of MSU students can deepen their relationship with Montana State by joining the Bobcat Family Fellows (BFF), a community whose leadership philanthropy accentuates their support of their student and enhances the education of all Bobcats.

Annual gifts of $2,500* are placed in a special category of giving called the President’s Circle. Donors at this level receive invitations to special events and insider communications. (*faculty and staff enter the President's Circle with an annual gift of $1,200).

Alumni and friends who have given $1,000 or more in support to MSU throughout their lifetime, are recognized as part of the Blue & Gold Forever giving society. Donors at this level receive insider communications, and a variety of perks. *If you are a lifetime member of the Alumni Association, your membership will be credited as $1,000 of support to MSU no matter what you paid for that membership.

Endowments

Donor endowed funds are Montana State University’s steadiest and most reliable source of funding. Endowed gifts can be designated and  are permanently invested to generate an annual return and provide continuing financial support.

Endowments provide a unique opportunity to eternally support what you care about most. These gifts may serve a specific purpose or may be directed for unrestricted general support. MSU’s endowment is made up of more than 1,200 individual funds that support faculty and students, including professorships and financial aid for undergraduates, graduate fellowships, academic programs and centers, and student life and activities.

Major gifts

Along with our mission of raising private support for the university, the Alumni Foundation’s efforts rely on the work of development officers to grow our potential for private support. These professionals work collaboratively with academic leadership and university administrators to secure gifts for university initiatives and campus priorities. By establishing and growing relationships with members of the MSU community, including alumni, parents, faculty, administrators and friends of the university, the development officers elevate our donors’ sights and affirm that Montana State University is a philanthropic priority.

With a minimum pledge of $25,000, parents and family members of MSU students can join the Bobcat Family Fellows (BFF), a community whose leadership philanthropy accentuates their support of their student and enhances the education of all Bobcats.
